A Magical Day back in May

John and Kate wed at Edgartown Light

The marriage season for this Cape Cod Interfaith Minister/ Wedding Officiant began with a beautiful trip to Martha's Vineyard on May 21st, 2011 to preside over two ceremonies at Edgartown Lighthouse. The first was small, just family from Texas. The second was a couple from Hobokan who were staying and having their reception at the Harbor View Hotel and Resort.

The early ceremony was misty and a bit wild on the beach beyond the lighthouse. The father of one of the brides read from the poem I had given him, The True Love by David Whyte and all of us misted over hearing the words

" to take the one hand

and the one life, you know belongs in yours."

The afternoon wedding was met by clearing skies and a warm spring sun, a near miracle for May on 'The Rock.' The bride's long processional from the Harbor View to the lighthouse mirrored the long and winding road that led this couple back to one another. Kate and John said, "I DO " to the thrilled applause of their families and friends then returned to the Harbor View for a beauty and fun -filled reception which no doubt spilled over onto the sweeping porches that surround that hotel.

As some of you may recall May 21st was the day the world was supposed to end.  For these two couples the life they knew as singles did: a stunning new life as a married couple began.

Two are better than one and the life you live together will be far richer than the one you would have lived alone.
