Another season another reason for making whoopee
The photo above is from last year. This beautiful couple, Allyson and Matthew, were wed at the Hedgebound estate in Truro. They had wanted the ceremony to be outside on the sweeping lawn but rain pulled them inside to a lovely porch with a view down to the garden hollow.
On Saturday on Hyannis Harbor during what amounted to a squall, Dean and Leah exchanged vows. We found shelter at this tiny grey dwelling and huddled together. Dean's words which he read to his bride were of the most sincere I have ever witnessed . Tears of tenderness mixed with the rain.
Wendell Berry would have approved. I still have the place card from my brother, Brian and his wife, Theresa's 1984 wedding that held the words below.
From "In Rain"
marriages to marriages
are joined , husband and wife
are plighted to all
husbands and wives
any life has all lives
for its delight.
Let the rain come,
the sun, and then the dark
for I will rest
in an easy bed tonight.
