    Giving Thanks

This Cape Cod Wedding Officiant, Celebrant, Interfaith Minister wants to thank all of you for making my job a labor of love. As Thanksgiving approaches and families gather it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect and slow down. A very wise being once reminded his close ones "Don't worry and don't hurry."

Taking time to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you who have said, "I do." Each one of you who have given your word to each other promising to be true ..each of you has enriched my life greatly...so thank you and Happy Thanksgiving.

Weddings by the Sea- Love is Love and Love must Love

This Cape Cod Wedding Celebrant / officiant / interfaith minister heard the peepers singing in the woods yesterday. The park was alive with sounds of spring even if the sights of spring take their time showing up around here.

Sometimes I am little slow on the uptake myself and I just discovered this really sweet review that Rachel wrote and I want to share it and wish her and Angel a happy 6 months anniversary.

Planning a wedding is stressful enough, but trying to find an officiant out of state without ever meeting them makes things even more stressful. I was very nervous and she calmed me with her gentle humor and mentioned she liked the Johnny Cash ring tone. Within the first 2 minutes I knew that I had found the woman to marry us! We decided after several conversations over the phone that there would be no need to meet Kathleen before the ceremony. We met here that day as we stood on the beach at the edge of P-town and committed to one another. She speaks from the heart, embraces love as it is without judgement, and creates a ceremony that will forever be treasured. Her words are beautiful and she is a lovely, genuine person. I thank God that I found her and chose her to be a part of the most important day of our lives. She created a simply amazing ceremony. - Rachel

As some of you may note I don't make a big splash about presiding over same gender weddings. To me it is such a given- that love is love and love must love! Being faithful to one chum ....The crossing into the country of marriage is a sacred passage and the passport requirments are a true and committed fidelity to the ONE you choose above all the rest- So welcome all who are sincerely ready to cross that threshold! and amen to that!

And I really do like Johnny Cash. So here are gorgeous photos by Organic Photography capturing  Rachel and Angel's sweet simplicity ceremony at Race Point last Autumn.

Who was St. Valentine? This wedding officiant /celebrant /minister

just read, "Valentinus, aka St. Valentine, was licensed to marry people."(from My View by Barbara Leedom in today's Cape Cod Times.)  Sadly, the poor soul ended up in jail for presiding over weddings for Roman soldiers. The powers that be didn't like their soldiers to be married.  Valentine befriended his jailer and the jailer intoduced Valentinus to his blind daughter, Julia.

Val was nice enough to cure Julia of her blindness.  Then while on his way to the gallows, he penned her a letter, signing it, "Your Valentine."

Wow. If I've heard this legend before it didn't resonate. St. Valentine was one of us, a Wedding Officiant. You have gotta love that.  (Unfortunately for Val, the Romans in power didn't.)

With Valentine's day upon us romance is in air, red hearts everywhere and the subject of love- ubiquitous. From the mating habits of California Tree frogs (inside family joke) to hearing Daniel Jones, editor of the NY Times column, Modern Love talk about his new book, Love Illuminated..... my head is spinning with the subject of     (see below)

    Happy Valentine's Day.

I need to rest my mind, awaken my heart, get off the computer and take a shower.

My husband has just come through the door bearing the most beautiful bouquet of flowers.

I wish you all mad love and sweet contentment. Who could ask for more.

And for any of you who get engaged today hope I'll be hearing from you soon!

Cape Cod Wedding Celebrants, Officiants, Ministers

Thank you Rebecca Arthurs and Julia Cumes for the photographs.  How do you chose what type of officiant you want to preside over your wedding? I often have couples from different faith traditions seek me out for spiritual yet not necessarily religious ceremonies. They say they want to bring some cultural aspects into the proceedings.

As an interfaith minister with a truly unorthodox view of religions, who was raised Irish Catholic, I love to share and to learn about all kinds of traditions, religious as well as cultural. I so enjoy hearing about and working into the ceremony some little ritual that is meaningful to your particuliar family.

Our family always sings and has a few recitations every time we gather for birthdays, graduations, weddings and yes, even at funerals- "we play the best of all." ( From McNamara's Band one of the many Irish American songs we performed as children.)

I am blessed to belong to a family that loves to celebrate and I carry that tradition into my ceremonies.

So I feel more like a celebrant with an interfaith seminary education than I do an officiant, although I do believe it is important to stand on ceremony and give this nuptial rite of passage its proper gravitas.

That doesn't mean we can't have fun!
