    Wedding Celebrants and Interfaith Ministers

This messge comes from my daily refection with the One Spirit Learning Alliance. I graduated from the New Seminary in 2000 but now associate with the One Spirit Learning Alliance. Rev. Diane Berke was the director at The New Seminary then went on to create One Spirit Learning Alliance which resonates with my path as an Interfaith minister and Wedding Celebrant. This reading reminds all of us of how vitally important it is to tend our own souls in order to seek union with another. Love it!

If we are to live without silencing or numbing essential parts of who we are, a vow must be invoked and upheld within oneself. The same commitments we pronounce when embarking on a marriage can be understood internally as a devotion to the care of one's soul: to have and to hold ... for better or for worse ... in sickness and in health ... to love and to cherish, till death do us part.
This means staying committed to your inner path. This means not separating from yourself when things get tough or confusing. This means accepting and embracing your faults and limitations. It means loving yourself no matter how others see you. It means cherishing the unchangeable radiance that lives within you, no matter the cuts and bruises along the way. It means binding your life with a solemn pledge to the truth of your soul.

One more August Wedding on Cape Cod for 2013

One more August wedding to go at Wychmere Harbor Beach Club       (see of Nina and Hong.)http://www.meredithperdue.com/wychmere-beach-club-wedding-nina-hong/

This one coming up is a fantastic fusion with cultural Jewish flourishes and another first for me- I have a co-officiant. The brides's brother will be my sidekick/ co -celebrant. He will be reading Song of the Open Road by Walt Whitman and saying the beautiful Hebrew blessing over the wine among other duties.

I always look back on other ceremonies I've done when I'm about to preside at the same venue. So many couples have mentioned the video of Nina and Hong done by Inkspot Crow and the photos by Meredith Perdue that I include them once again.

Just the Two of Us saying I Do

This Cape Cod Wedding celebrant/ Interfaith minister/ officiant wants to give a shout out to the wedding ceremony.  It really is the centerpiece of your wedding day though by the time I'm doing the rehearsal the exhausted bride and groom are often "decisioned out." In the midst of all the detailed decisions from placesettings to candy stations, the reason for the day, let's just say, becomes covered in confection. There are some brides and grooms who truly thrive on all that jazz but beware of decision overload and pull the focus back to why you are getting married in the first place.

Lately I have had a flurry of last minute wedding ceremonies...it goes something like this. "We have been togeter for some time now and we just love Cape Cod; it is our favorite place on earth so we decided to get married while we are on vacation next month, well I guess in a few weeks actually....... Are you available?... and I have been. Ususally the setting is a beach, midweek with just the two of them or a few of them. No muss no fuss sweet simplicity!

Asha and Marissa drove from Texas through a hurricane to say, " I do"  on First Encounter Beach in Eastham at sunset.

They loved the Cape but really loved the slots so they had their nuptials and drove back to Foxwoods before heading back south. We are still in contact and they are one of my favorite couples ever!

Here is   another 'Just the two of us' couple, Dan and Dawn, on Nantucket Sound. (Julia Cumes Photography.)

Now don't get me wrong all those beautiful details enhance the over all wedding day, just remember to include the ceremony in your list. And turnover to a trusted celebrant the task of getting it right.

I did a wedding for Jennifer and Gaston out on the tidal flats at Skaket Beach and the best comment I kept hearing was "This is so Jenn." That made my day and I know it did theirs. They had the most lovely chuppah made by Fancy Flowers. When I get some photos I will share with you.

And next time I 'll report on the wedding on Martha's Vineyard at the Harborview for Katie and Brian -heartfelt and hilarious...that's what she said!

    Weddings with children

This Cape Cod wedding celebrant has been so busy presiding over weddings I haven't been able to write but here is a scenario I want to share with you.

The last four weddings I have done have included children. Such a treat for me. On Monday I met with a couple who are getting married in August. We met at Marion's Pie Shop which I highly recommend. Their two children were with us. It was also the bride's 30th birthday -so much to celebrate.

The children were so beautiful sitting in the big red adirondeck chairs, blueberry filling all over their faces excited about their upcoming roles in the wedding  - well the little girl was, Bubba, their little boy,  is only two and a half.

"Family is important." I said at one point and little Bubba repeated, "Family is important!"

When I asked if the couple had any favorite songs the groom immediately whipped out his phone and played me this tune. It says it all. So romantic I don't care if my son's voice in my head says EMO (wait until he's engaged !)

The picture above is of a couple whose anniversary was last week. Their flower girl was their daughter. To celebrate their wedding anniversary they welcomed their baby son into the world. Can't wait to meet and bless him!

More later- have a wedding at First Encounter with children!

Stay happy and totally engaged and don't give up....
