Sweet Simplicity and Sincerity: Weddings whose sincerity make a big splash

The best moments in a wedding ceremony arise naturally, with a touch of alchemy that can't be forced. Crossing this Sacred Threshold is a spectacular moment in itself. A couple doesn't have to exit on jet skis to make a splash. I think a true moment often comes more quietly, as David Whyte says in his poem, The True Love. Here's an excerpt-

Except it will not come so grandly, so biblically,
but more subtly, and intimately in the face
of the one you know you have to love.

We Gather at Chequessett- A Marriage let's Bless it

Photos from Jeffrey and Allison’s Wedding August 26, 2011

    Chequessett Weddings

Weddings at Chequessett- I have done several and always love the rustic, quintessential Cape atmosphere which just naturally surrounds this setting. What is better than a boat house on Cape Cod  Bay in Wellfleet!

I don't have any photos yet from the wedding that took place this evening. I remembered how I love the stone steps leading down to the sand. It is such a naturally elegant processional for the bride.

The beyond- blended family gathered from ages 8-16 with two eleven year olds in the mix. It could have been quite a challenge but these five children were fantastic! Enthusiastic and just plain good natured. They did a sand ceremony symbolizing their fun family fusion. The bride and groom set the foundation and they children took turns pouring in the colored sands.

From Gift from the Sea by Ann Morrow Lindberg

When you love someone you do not love them all the time in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to. And yet this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love of relationships. We leap at the flow of the tide and resist in terror its ebb. We are afraid it will never return. We insist on permanency, on duration , on continuity when the only continuity possible in life as in love is in growth, in fluidity in freedom in the sense that the dancers are free , barely touching as they pass but partners in the same pattern.

After rain off and on all day the the skies cleared and the sun setting over Cape Cod Bay made for a perfect setting for this Happy Big Day.

I will include some photos of past wedding at Chequessett and wish this wonderful couple and their beyond blended family every best wish and blessing.

    Sweet Simplicity Wedding Ceremonies

Jamie and Mary wed with a small party of family members on First Encounter Beach in Eastham on July 10th. Their children were with them in a happy blending of ages and enthusiasm.

They made my job as a Cape Cod Wedding officiant very easy with their trusting approach to being presided over.

There was a beautiful breeze that evening which whimsically played with Mary's short white darling dress!

She rushed over, when I first met her, threw her arms around me saying. "You remind me of my mother." from the way she said it I knew her mother was here ith us in spirit!

As breezes blew rippling the tidal pools, I shared with her this quote from a Hawaiian Wedding ceremony.

"The wind at a wedding is the presence of those that are absent."

Don't Worry. Be Happy and make each other happy for true love lies in making other's happy!

Jamie carries Mary over the threshold into the Country of Marriage, in the State of Matrimony!

Just the Two of Us saying I Do

This Cape Cod Wedding celebrant/ Interfaith minister/ officiant wants to give a shout out to the wedding ceremony.  It really is the centerpiece of your wedding day though by the time I'm doing the rehearsal the exhausted bride and groom are often "decisioned out." In the midst of all the detailed decisions from placesettings to candy stations, the reason for the day, let's just say, becomes covered in confection. There are some brides and grooms who truly thrive on all that jazz but beware of decision overload and pull the focus back to why you are getting married in the first place.

Lately I have had a flurry of last minute wedding ceremonies...it goes something like this. "We have been togeter for some time now and we just love Cape Cod; it is our favorite place on earth so we decided to get married while we are on vacation next month, well I guess in a few weeks actually....... Are you available?... and I have been. Ususally the setting is a beach, midweek with just the two of them or a few of them. No muss no fuss sweet simplicity!

Asha and Marissa drove from Texas through a hurricane to say, " I do"  on First Encounter Beach in Eastham at sunset.

They loved the Cape but really loved the slots so they had their nuptials and drove back to Foxwoods before heading back south. We are still in contact and they are one of my favorite couples ever!

Here is   another 'Just the two of us' couple, Dan and Dawn, on Nantucket Sound. (Julia Cumes Photography.)

Now don't get me wrong all those beautiful details enhance the over all wedding day, just remember to include the ceremony in your list. And turnover to a trusted celebrant the task of getting it right.

I did a wedding for Jennifer and Gaston out on the tidal flats at Skaket Beach and the best comment I kept hearing was "This is so Jenn." That made my day and I know it did theirs. They had the most lovely chuppah made by Fancy Flowers. When I get some photos I will share with you.

And next time I 'll report on the wedding on Martha's Vineyard at the Harborview for Katie and Brian -heartfelt and hilarious...that's what she said!
