We Gather at Chequessett- A Marriage let's Bless it

Photos from Jeffrey and Allison’s Wedding August 26, 2011

    Chequessett Weddings

Weddings at Chequessett- I have done several and always love the rustic, quintessential Cape atmosphere which just naturally surrounds this setting. What is better than a boat house on Cape Cod  Bay in Wellfleet!

I don't have any photos yet from the wedding that took place this evening. I remembered how I love the stone steps leading down to the sand. It is such a naturally elegant processional for the bride.

The beyond- blended family gathered from ages 8-16 with two eleven year olds in the mix. It could have been quite a challenge but these five children were fantastic! Enthusiastic and just plain good natured. They did a sand ceremony symbolizing their fun family fusion. The bride and groom set the foundation and they children took turns pouring in the colored sands.

From Gift from the Sea by Ann Morrow Lindberg

When you love someone you do not love them all the time in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to. And yet this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love of relationships. We leap at the flow of the tide and resist in terror its ebb. We are afraid it will never return. We insist on permanency, on duration , on continuity when the only continuity possible in life as in love is in growth, in fluidity in freedom in the sense that the dancers are free , barely touching as they pass but partners in the same pattern.

After rain off and on all day the the skies cleared and the sun setting over Cape Cod Bay made for a perfect setting for this Happy Big Day.

I will include some photos of past wedding at Chequessett and wish this wonderful couple and their beyond blended family every best wish and blessing.

As Summer Sun gives way to September- South Cape Beach to Chequessett

As the sunsplashed days of summer gives way to September I have had the pleasure to work at some beautiful venues. Captain Linnell House in Orleans is the perfect secret garden setting for the poem Country of Marriage by Wendell Berry. The boathouse beach at Chequessett offers a seascape and rustic nautical atmosphere for Gift from the Sea by Ann Morrow Lindberg.

I have also discovered some lovely small places like The Meadow on the Cove in Orleans overlooking the Orleans Yacht Club where of theme of  marriage as a safe harbor emerges. At that wedding we did a fisherman's knot tying ritual as part of a wedding ceremony.  I wrote an original poem for the couple bringing in this nautical theme of making fast the ties that bind. My husband, David, who was in the Coast Guard, gave me some great wording about how the ropes must be of equal strength to make the knot hold under pressure.

As the pictures come in from the wonderful photographers with whom I have worked such as, Julia Cumes I will post pictures. Also, I want to give a shout out to DJ Scott Rosenthal of Cape Tunes with whom I worked at Popponnessett Inn another wonderful venue just last Friday. I loved the Love Shack recessional !

Below is a picture of Abigail and Cliff at Chequessett from last September -Happy Anniversary!
